Crossroad candles have been so popular, we decided to bring in both the 16 and 26 ounce jars this fall and winter season. We also doubled the number of scents we are carrying. Why these candles and not the $9.00 brand? Quality; plain and simple. The two wick system and superior wax, allows the candle to burn down evenly, right to the last speck. There is no hollow in the middle of the candle, no scraping the sides and ‘drowning’ the wick. The 16-ounce candles have a burn time of 80-100 hours; 26-ounce candles have a burn time of 120-140 hours. Each candle is made with a very clean burning, blended paraffin wax which allows the maximum amount of fragrance. The jar candle features a scent specific label and two lead-free wicks.

Buttered Maple Syrup is, by far, the best seller…and we have plenty in stock. For fall, there is Cinnamon Bun, peach cobbler and Pumpkin Pie to name a few. Winter fragrances include Cranberry Amaretto, Winter Frost and Balsam Fir.

Ladies…if you are planning to attend Woman’s World October 4, 5 and 6 at Prairieland Park, please stop by our booth and see these awesome candles yourself.

This little gems are a good autumn dessert which could quickly make the transition over to a favorite Christmas family favorite. They look good and taste even better.
19 ounces cream cheese
3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
caramel:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup evaporated milk
crust:
1 cup almond meal*** (see below how to make)
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon fine Sea Salt
1/4 teaspoon ground Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/4 cup melted butterPre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Crush your slivered almonds.
In a mixing bowl whisk together the almond flour, almonds, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Add the butter and combine with a spoon.
Line a muffin tin with liners. Push the almond mixture into the bottom of the liners. Bake for 10 minutes to set.
Turn oven down to 300°.
In a mixing bowl, add cream cheese, vanilla, sugar and eggs. Beat until light and fluffy.
Spoon mixture into the muffin tins with prepared almond crust. Bake for 40 minutes.
While cakes are cooking, start on the caramel.
Combine granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons water in a medium, heavy saucepan over medium-high heat; cook until sugar dissolves, stirring gently for 3 minutes.
Stop stirring and continue cooking 10 minutes or until the color of light brown sugar. Remove from heat; carefully stir in butter and milk. Place pan over medium-high heat until caramelized sugar melts. Bring to a boil; cook 1 minute.
Remove pan from heat; cool caramel to room temperature. Cover and chill 1 hour or until slightly thickened.
Take cheesecakes out of the oven when they are done. Once cool, the middle will slightly fall and this is the perfect indent for the caramel. Spoon about 1 tablespoon caramel over each cheesecake.

Homemade almond meal is so easy to make. In less than 5 minutes you can have fresh almond meal, at a fraction of the cost of ready-made products. Be sure to refrigerate (or wrap, label and freeze) any unused almond meal because it can become rancid after being ground and exposed to oxygen and light.
*****ALMOND MEAL: Difficulty: Easy Time Required: Under 5 minutes- Start to Finish!
  1. Place 1/2 cup blanched or unblanched almonds in a clean electric coffee bean grinder.
  2. Put the lid on the coffee bean grinder and pulse several times until a medium-fine textured meal forms. Don’t over-grind or you will make almond butter!
  3. Put ground almond meal in a clean flour sifter. Sift almond meal. Place any large particles of almonds back in coffee bean grinder and pulse again. Sift reremaining almond meal.
  4. That’s it. Use any nut to make fresh, delicious nut meals using this simple technique.Do not over-grind the almonds or you will end up with almond butter!

TIPS:

  1. Use a flour sifter free of any gluten cross-contamination. Make your sifter a “dedicated” gluten free flour sifter- use only gluten free ingredients in it!
  2. Store-bought almond meal is frequently made with blanched almonds- almonds that have had the skins removed. I like to use almonds with their skins on because the skin contains healthy antioxidants.
  3. Always store almond meal in a labeled container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Liven Up Corners

If you have a corner that’s kind of dead, make a rectangular pedestal out of plywood and lacquer it with high-gloss white paint. Anything you put on it, from a glass bowl to a concrete urn, suddenly becomes important. It’s like a little museum installation. Some homes, especially older ones, have odd little corners that seem to be of no practical use. This can be a landing spot for family memorabilia, souvenirs from trips, a plate or spoon collection or even a sports collection. This spot may never be ‘useful’ in the true sense of the word but it can be an important corner of your home. Another idea is to change the decor seasonally.

JOKE OF THE DAY: Both of us can’t look good at the same time. It’s me, or the house.
HAPPY SEPTEMBER 26 BIRTHDAY TO: Olivia Newton John 65, Serena Williams 32, James Caviezel 45, Christina Milian 32, Shawn Stockman 41, Linda Hamilton 57, George Gershwin (1898-1937), Kent McCord 71, Mellissa Sue Anderson 51, Donna Douglas 80, Jack Lalanne (1914-2011), Marty Robbins (1925-1982), and Carlele Carter 58.
Cold and flu season will soon be upon us, why wait to drink a hot cup of this tea. It isn’t the best tasting ‘tea blend’ but it may just keep you healthy. If you feel a cold coming on, mix hot water, 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of vinegar and a dash of cinnamon……. Stir, Drink and you will feel refreshed, naturally and begin to feel better within an hour. Get well soon.

JOKE OF THE DAY: Some men say women should come with an instruction manual. Riiight…when was the last time a man read any instructions.

HAPPY SEPTEMBER 25 BIRTHDAY TO: Mark hamill 62, Will Smith 45, Catherine Zeta Jones 44, Michael Douglas 69, Cheryl Tiegs 66, Christopher Reeves (1952-2004), Barbara Walters 84, Heather Locklear 52, Jamie Hyneman 57, Lee Norris 32, Anson Williams 64, Michael Madsen 56, Aida Turturro 51, Ian Tyson 80, and Phil Rizzuto (1917-2007).

Jack-o-lanterns add a spark to your autumn-inspired decor, but this time, the faces and fancy carvings aren’t necessary. Simply cut a hole in the top of a pumpkin, scoop out the insides, and place a candle inside the cavity to create a warm fall light. Try different sizes of pumpkins and surround them with gourds and other pumpkins to complete the arrangement. This Is so fun and simple to do using what nature gives you. Gather some fallen leaves, pine cones and sticks. This is a great mantle or table centerpiece idea.
