There is nothing worse than an earache in the middle of the night, here is a home remedy with common ingredients you have around the house.. Works every time!
50/50 mix of peroxide and white vinegar, let it sit in your ear for about 5 minutes, then put hot water into a disposable diaper (weird I know) and microwave it for 30-45 seconds or until it’s hot but won’t burn you, and place that on your ear. It keeps the water warm for a long time, and is able to be microwaved numerous times.

After about an hour, the manager came out of the office, and asked them to disperse. “But why,” they asked, as they moved off. “Because,” he said, “I can’t stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer.”

The easiest and simple idea to create a planter is definitely this one. You will only need some plastic bottles and a scissor to cut it as you wish (in the pictures you can see some nice ways of cutting). Fill the bottle with soil and it is ready to receive your plant! You can fix lots of them in a wall and give a nice look to your home! Just a few planters may look uninspiring, a lot of them arranged in a row or staggered pattern are stunning. This is a good opportunity to grow flowering plants that hang. If you have limited space, this is a good option to grow a few vegetables.

Stones can be transformed in rustic and different planters for you decorate all your garden and house. Find a big stone and make a hole in it with the help of a hammer and a chisel. Don’t forget safety glasses, it is essential if you are going to attempt to do this home project. Fill with fertilized soil and place your plant or seeds. Stones are good to retain water and this will help to keep your plants always beautiful and well treated. Mix the stone planters with the tree trunk planter from yesterday’s blog and see what a wonderful garden space you can create.

So… your 80 year old tree died or blew over in a big wind storm and you are left with an unsightly big stump in the middle of the front yard. Perfect option for bigger plants and flowers, tree trunks can become a wonderful planter in your garden. It takes a bit of work to make a hollow in it to allow for a flower planter but it is well worth the effort. These 4 photos show just how lovely and natural a tree stump can be. Of course you won´t cut a tree only to make one, but if you already have one cut in your garden or if you know how to obtain the middle part of a cut trunk you can reuse them in your garden. Fill the holes in the trunks with fertilized soil. You can place flowers and vegetables already planted or spread seeds all around the trunk. I´m sure this idea will create a lovely and charming effect to your backyard.
Check tomorrow’s blog for natural stone planters.

Dog fur may be used as a natural pest repellent. After brushing, collect the left over fur and make a nest. Fit this nest of fur around the base of a plant either in a pot or on the ground. The fur nest will capture small bugs before they begin to invade. It will also deter larger predators such as rabbits and gophers. They will smell the dog, assume there is one close by and hop along their merry way.
Wrap a small plant cage with an onion sack. Fill it with left over dog hair, dryer lint, shredded paper and twigs. Hang it outside. The birds will love this easy access to nest building.
Bring in a garden snake. Not the normal, slithery kind. This “snake” is a burlap tube filled with left over fuzz and hair. Make it as long as the garden. The dog scent will deter the smallest of pests (rabbits, gophers) and may also discourage deer from munching on the vegetables.

It is nearly wasp season in Saskatchewan and that means stings. You can build your own trap and get rid of the pests without harming bees. Remove the cap from a 2 litre plastic soda bottle and make a straight cut around the circumference of the bottle about 2/3 the way up. Remove the top part of the bottle and invert it into the bottom part. Secure the two pieces together with tape. Add a mixture of vinegar, sugar and salt to the bottle. Wasps are attracted to the sweet and sour scent yet bees don’t seem to be attracted by this sour mixture whereas a honey mix would be a fatal attractant. Set the bottle(s) around the perimeter of the yard away from pets and people. Wasps can get in but they cannot get out and will die in there. Either stand the bottle somewhere secure or attach wire to it and hang on a fence or eaves.

How to Silence It: First, check the tops of the blades for excess dust accumulation. “Believe it or not, just a little extra weight can affect the fan’s balance, causing the motor to squeak,” says Vince Christofora, Jr., engineer and owner of Woodstock Hardwarein Woodstock, New York. If the fan has a light kit, make sure the light bulbs are screwed in tightly and/or the globe’s mounting screws are secure. Next, lightly grab each blade and wiggle. If you find a loose one, retighten its mounting screws.
If this doesn’t fix the squeak, your fan blades may be out of balance, Christofora says. Grab a fan-balancing kit, found at most hardware and home stores. The directions will guide you through the process — it’s pretty straightforward. Still squeaking? It could be that the fan motor’s bearings are worn out. Unfortunately, replacement may be the best solution.
