An old mantel proves to be just the thing for a statement-making headboard. Clean and scrape down the mantle to get it ready for painting. I would choose a neutral color for the mantle and then fill the firebox opening with an upholstered cushion for extra comfort. Use a fabric to match your bedding or go for something wild and colorful. The top of the surround is used for displaying favorite finds. Be sure to use the appropriate hardware for securing the heavy mantel to the wall.

Wine Corks Life Hacks

This cork use is either brilliant or totally dorky…you decide. Take on outdoor weddings with ease thanks to these wine cork add-ons. Your stilettos will no longer sink into the ground.

Another use for corks: Savor cherished memories by writing the date and event on corks. Then toss them in a tall glass vase to make a cute keepsake you can pull out when you’re feeling nostalgic.

DIY Rope Towel Holder

Many thanks to Lori Greco, blogger from Franklin, MA
Make a nautical-style towel holder using rope and some industrial plumbing clips. So simple and unique!

I’m here to share how you can make a towel holder with rope – a DIY project I did as part of my kids’ bathroom redesign. The bathroom has a nautical/rustic feel to it and I love how this towel holder works so well in this space.
  • diy rope towel holder, bathroom ideas, diy, organizing
Here are the materials you’ll need:
• Rope. I bought white twisted nylon rope at Home Depot that’s 3/4″thick. The length depends on how far you want your holder to extend. My rope is about 30″ long. I didn’t use sisal rope because I thought it would be too coarse for this project.
• Sharp scissors or a utility knife
• Two 1/2″ galvanized clips. These can be found in the plumbing section of any home improvement store such as Home Depot.
• Glue gun and/or clear nail polish
• Screws and wall anchors
• Tools: drill, screwdriver, hammer, measuring tape
  • diy rope towel holder, bathroom ideas, diy, organizing
Ideally, you want to buy your rope to be the exact length of your towel holder so you don’t have to cut it yourself and seal the ends. Home supply stores will cut and burn the ends so it won’t fray but sometimes the edges turn black when they do this. So if you do need to cut your rope, you can do the following to prevent the edges from fraying: First, when you’ve figured out how long you want your towel holder to be, use a hair elastic and wrap it around the rope just above where you will be cutting it. Use sharp scissors or a utility knife to cut the rope and then hot glue to seal it. Clear nail polish would work too you just need a lot of it.

Next, tie a knot at each ends of the rope. I just did a single standard knot and this worked great. Don’t leave too much extra rope hanging.

Figure where you want your towel holder to be positioned on the wall and attach one of the galvanized clips where the right side of the holder will be. Make sure one end of the rope with the knot is through the clip. I used screws with wall anchors so I needed my drill, screwdriver, measuring tape and hammer.

Attach the other galvanized clip with the left side of the rope/knot to the wall where the other side of the towel holder will be. Be sure that both clips are even.

Hang your towel and admire your custom-made rope towel holder with a nautical/industrial feel!

  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup sugar (white or brown)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Place all ingredients except the vanilla extract into a bowl which you can place over a pot of simmering water.

{You could use a double boiler here instead}

Whisk the egg white mixture constantly over simmering water until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot to the touch. {It takes around 5 minutes}.

Pour the mixture into a bigger bowl and beat with an electric mixer for 3 minutes. {Add the vanilla while beating}. After 3 minutes, the mixture will be lovely and fluffy.

I love using disposable piping bags – {or you could even use a plastic bag} without a nozzle, I simply piped straight out the end of the piping bag directly onto the cupcakes.

Don’t you love how they look – and so yummy!!!

Hope you try this recipe. It sounds like a bit of work, but really it takes very little time and effort and they are so easy to pipe as the icing is very soft and much easier to squirt out than buttercream.

HAPPY JANUARY 26 BIRTHDAY TO: Vince Carter 39, Eddie Van Halen 61, Bob Uecker 81, Wayne Gretzky 55, Ellen DeGeneres 58, Anita Baker 58, and Paul Newman (1925-2008).

There are so many ways to put tension rods to use, and there’s evidence to prove it. People have taken on the challenge of finding the best possible way to get the most out of the narrow rods that come in all different sizes. The reason they’re so adaptable? They can basically fit anywhere and can hold a good amount of weight.Well, we’ve found some of the best places people have found to use this product. The kicker? Not a single one of them is placed in the bathroom!

Here are the eight best, unlikely uses for your tension rods that will completely transform every corner of your house into an organized wonderland.

It’s as easy as placing curtains on a tension rod in between two shelves or bookcases. This is especially great if your little ones love putting on shows for you. They’ll go nuts for this stage!

Adding a tension rod and some shower hooks in the cupboard near the oven will change your life. You’ll no longer start dinner with frustrated banging and clanking as you search for the right sauce pan to make your meal.

You actually don’t have to go out and buy an expensive closet organizer to clean up the mess that is the massive pile of unworn shoes in your closet. Just take four tension rods, set them at different heights depending on what type of shoes you have, and you’ll be good to go.

This is especially useful if you are renting at a place or can’t do major construction work to create a cozy little sanctuary for your kids… or even for you! It’s also an affordable version of some of the major DIY home projects you see online. All you need is a tension rod, some curtains, and a reasonable amount of space between a crib and the wall. (It would also probably work if the space was between the wall and a bed frame, bookshelf, or dresser!)

Nothing is more irritating than spilled cleaning supply bottles that easily add up under the kitchen sink. A lot of the supplies have a nozzle that can be hooked onto something, like a tension rod! Make use of this feature by storing the 20 half-used bottles of Windex you have in a way that will leave you less stressed every time you open the cabinet.

What? There are actually multiple uses for tension rods under tables. One of them is for craft paper. If you buy a big role of it, it’s harder to find storage. But, kids can go through the stuff pretty quickly, and if it’s out of your sight but closer to where they’ll be coloring, the situation works better for everyone.

Another use for tension rods under the craft table is for ribbons. Making beautiful bows is impressive, but sometimes storing the 50 different colored ribbons you own in a reasonable manner can be difficult. Plus, who wants to dedicate four drawers just to your ribbon collection?

Cutting boards can be bulky. If you lay them flat, you’re likely to pile stuff on top of them and make access even more difficult. However, if you stand them on their sides, you’re in a constant battle trying to make them not fall over. Here’s a solution to both of those issues. Throw in the cookie sheets as well!

This one is surprising. Who would guess that the hallway out of all places is a good spot to put tension rods? Turns out they make great baby gates! You can decide how high they need to be and you have more flexibility when it comes to where they should go. Plus, when your kid, or dog, outgrows the need for it, you’re not left with a baby gate you don’t want.

How To Clip Dog’s Nails At Home

There are no written instructions included, other than the diagrams. If you are a dog owner, clipping their nails is a necessity. When the nails are left long, they are painful and can cause foot deformities. It is recommended you use a professional groomer to do their nails, however, trimming can be done at home if you follow these instructions.

Feeling a bit like MacGuyver, I turned a hula hoop, rope, and two shower curtains into a bright and cheery play canopy tent for my son in under an hour. Starstruck, he declared me a Mom Rockstar for this simple yet impactful DIY! The best part? Finding him snuggled in his tent reading books each morning.

  • A little drip goes a long way on these fun planters made from simple clay pots upgraded easily with craft paint.

  • MATERIALS

    • craft paint
    • assorted pots

You might cry over spilled milk, but you will rejoice when spilling paint on these fun planters. Grab an old pot, a funky color combo of cheap craft paint and get to spilling. Better yet, if you have small children, let them do the spilling for you.

STEP 1: Gather Your Supplies: You will want to be sure to use a drop cloth of some sort to catch the excess paint.

STEP 3: Go With the Flow: Liberally spill your paint down the sides of your pot. Start with large globs at the rim and let the paint run down the sides organically. The drips should not look forced or intentional.
