Laundry is a task most ladies do not care for. (I don’t mind doing laundry at all…the house smells so nice.) This is a great laundry room hack that looks much better than the Costco size orange Tide bottles and blue Downy bottles. You may even have this glass lemonade dispenser in the basement collecting dust. Clean it up and pour in liquid laundry detergent or fabric softener. The spigot lets you dispense the right amount of liquid and you can see at a glimpse if you need to buy more. The dispensers can be decorated up with ribbon or chalkboard paint…all of a sudden your bland laundry room has a color scheme. Purchase smaller lidded jars for dryer sheets and stain remover products.

How To Smooth Out A Doll’s Hair

Kind of a lazy post today but one that has a lot of merit, especially if you have a little girl who loves her favorite doll. Restore her hair back to like-new with this quick tip. Take a small spray bottle and add 2 tbsp. of fabric softener and fill the rest of the bottle with water. Shake and spray the doll’s hair. Comb through.

New Art Arrivals From Mercana

The Benoit wall hung candle holders are fabulous in a matte gold finish. They are a huge statement at 16″ wide, 6″ deep, by 72″ tall. We currently have them on each side of a Hillsboro love seat but they could easily be at home in a hallway or on each side of a bed. In between the Benoit candle holders are 4 metal wall art leaves (Oriska I & II) which are a beautiful mixture of muted greens with gold ribbing. Oriska I is 15″ x 2″ x 21″ and Oriska II is 22″ x 2″ x 29″. They can definitely fill a wall.

Also just arrived is more art from another favorite supplier of ours, Renwil. There should be new art on the walls in a day or two.

Legend Of Pussywillows

Found this legend of where pussywillows come from. Credit the internet somewhere.

According to an old Polish legend, a mother cat was crying at the bank of the river where her kittens were drowning. The willows at the edge longed to help her, so they swept their long graceful branches into the river to rescue the tiny kittens who had fallen in while chasing butterflies.

The kittens gripped on tightly to their branches and brought them safely to shore. Each springtime since, goes the legend, the willow branches sprout tiny fur-like buds at their tips where the kittens once clung.

Watermelon Feta Salad with Mint

Watermelon Feta Salad with Mint

Nothing says spring/summer like fresh watermelon and feta! The salty citrus dressing really brings out the flavor of the watermelon, the mint is refreshing, and the feta adds a perfect touch of creaminess. Even those of you who don’t like sweet, fruity salads may appreciate this one– the flavor is truly unique. It is almost certain to be a big hit with your friends.

If at all possible, try to find goat or sheep’s milk feta– preferably the larger chunks sold in delis or cheese markets. It is preferable to pre-crumbled cow’s milk feta. No big deal if you can’t find it– the other feta will work just as well!
Watermelon Feta Salad with Mint
1 7-8 lb. seedless watermelon, chilled
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 limes, juiced
1 1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp black pepper
1 cup fresh chopped mint leaves
1 1/2 cups crumbled feta cheese (goat or sheep milk feta is best)

Note: This salad is best made just prior to serving. Prepare one hour or less before your meal.
Cut rind from the watermelon, then chop the fruit into 1 inch chunks. Place chunks in a colander to drain as you chop. In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, fresh lime juice, salt, and black pepper to create a dressing. Place watermelon in a large salad bowl. Pour dressing and chopped mint over the watermelon and toss gently to coat.
Pour the crumbled feta into the salad bowl and stir gently to integrate the cheese into the salad. Serve.
The salt and the citrus in the dressing will activate the juices in the watermelon, so a lot of liquid will collect in the bottom of the salad bowl. This is normal, and does not affect the flavor. To avoid having liquid transfer to your plate, serve the salad with a slotted spoon.

I came across a series of things you could do with cindercrete blocks (on Facebook somewhere). No source or credit was given. There were no instructions or tutorials but this project looks pretty straightforward. It looks to be 20 cindercrete blocks cleaned up, painted white and stacked 4 across with the opposite ends turned in. The mattress pad you can purchase in most department stores, or camping stores or specialty bedding stores. If there isn’t a mattress pad to be found buy a 4 or 5 ” slab of foam and have it covered. Narrow wale corduroy in a bright color will do just fine. Make sure to have it zippered for cleaning. Stack colorful throw cushions against the wall and your kids are all set for a play date or sleepover. Holes in the bricks are convenient little cubbies for toys, books and shoes. As the kids grow up, the day bed can mature with them by painting the bricks a different color and changing out the cover on the mattress pad.

Make A Turtle Fruit Bowl

Looking for a healthy and oh, so cute dessert to bring to a family dinner this Easter? This was something I found on the Internet somewhere and it falls under the category of how-hard-can-it-be? There were no tutorials or how-to’s included with the photo so we are all on our creative own for this one. So you mess it up a bit, you’ll get kudos for trying and the fresh fruit will be a hit. Bring your turtle in a shallow dish to catch any juice and include a fruit dip, either store bought or home made.
