Ghost Pumpkins
Aren’t these ghost pumpkins delightfully spooky? They are actually faux pumpkins turned upside down. Carve a large zigzag design all the way around the top of the pumpkin, remove the top, discard and turn the pumpkin upside down. Then carve a ghost face. Leave these cuties out on your porch with a candle inside or hang from a tree with an LED light taped on the inside.

DIY- Fun And Lasting Halloween Project

All you need for this project is a pail of sand, a piece of rebar (or dowel), and a few plastic pumpkins. Decide which angle you want the pumpkins to sit and mark the spots. Use a large drill bit to make a hole at the bottom and top of your pumpkin. If you do not have a drill, make a hole by cutting an “X” with a sharp knife. Stand the rebar in the pail of sand and start stacking the pumpkin heads. The heads in this photo has flowers but you can add your own touch with lights, webs, plastic bats or black tulle fabric.

DIY Hanging Succulent Planter

Hanging macrame planters have been ‘out’ for a few years now but this is a clean modern take on the old hanger. And, let’s face it, there is always a corner of your home that needs a bit of greenery without using up valuable table space. Use a dollar store bowl, embroidery hoop, and cord to create this trendy hanging succulent planter.

Grab your supplies and get ready to create your hanging succulent planter! First make sure your embroidery hoop and bowl fit. You want the hoop to come up under the lip of the bowl, but not be at risk for the bowl to slip through the hoop. You also want to avoid a bowl that is too big and doesn’t go far enough up the bowl. This will make your hanger unstable.

Next, decide how long you would like your planter to hang. Then cut three lengths of cord, adding on 3-inches to your hanging length for knots. Tie a secure knot on the end of each length of cord

Loosen the outer ring of the embroidery hoop and push through each of the knots, spreading them out around the hoop. Then tighten the tension of the outer hoop so that the knots cannot be pulled through between inner and outer hoops.

Plant your succulent, or whatever plant you choose, in your ceramic bowl. Clean up the edges and sides just in case any soil is lingering. Place bowl inside hoop. Lift up on your lengths of cords until they are taut. Gently lift your hoop and planter off the ground and create a knot that allows your plant to hang balanced. This took me two tries, but it’s really not too difficult.

Use an S-Hook or O-Ring to hold up your planter. Then hang it from a hook you may already have hanging, or you can use simple screw hooks mounted to suspend your planter.

Now sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor! This is a quick and easy way to bring some green life into any room!

Who says Christmas ornaments are only good for one holiday season? Grab a wire frame wreath at a craft or dollar store and start putting together a beautiful fall wreath. Take a florist wire and loop it through the ornament hanger and then wire it to the wreath. Start with the largest ornaments and get those placed first, Try placing them at 1, 5, 7 and 11 o’clock positions instead of the usual 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock spots. Start to fill in spaces with medium and smaller ornaments in a mixture of matte, glitter and shiny finishes. The finish up with a leaf garland or individual faux leaves. Add in pine cones or twigs or anything you feel is fall-like. Tie on a big bow in brown, green or orange.

Try your hand at Halloween wreath with black, purple and silver ornaments. Fill in the spaces with tulle tied to the wire form and embellish with bats, skulls or spiders.

Huge Decorating For Small Patios

These photos of small deck and balcony spaces turned up on the internet somewhere and I had to share them. You can have a luscious looking outdoor space with a small budget, a creative imagination and a bit of DIY. It all starts with artificial grass (not green carpeting). This is a bit pricey but well worth the investment. Some condo boards don’t allow for permanent outdoor fixtures so check with them before you begin any one of these projects. To create a portable canopy similar to the one in the first photo, insert 4X4 pressure treated posts in pails of cement and let harden. From there, you can move the posts to accommodate smaller or larger areas. String lights, curtains or canopies between the posts. Super idea for outdoor weddings.

Pool Noodle Shower
Put a fun twist on playing in the sprinkler with this easy-to-make noodle shower. Cut a couple of feet off a full-size noodle. Then, using a pencil or dowel, poke holes in the noodle’s sides. Tape off one side of the noodle. Hang the garden hose over a tree limb, then slide the open side of the noodle over the hose nozzle for hours of fun water play.

Create Your Own Flavored Lip Balm

Another lazy day Sunday. Vaseline is a great lip balm but the taste isn’t appealing so try this quick fix. Add Kool-Aid to Vaseline to make your own flavored lip balm. You will have to play with the quantities of each to get it just right for your taste.

Construct a backyard obstacle course for your kids this summer with pool noodles (great idea for a birthday party). They can pretend it’s the summer Olympics. Create hoops by staking dowels into the ground, and sliding the noodle over them in various ways to create all types of fun obstacles. Hoops can act as soccer nets as well. Make Olympics rings by bending the noodles into circles and securing the ends with duct tape. Kids can hop through these circles or pick them up one at a time and slide them down over their bodies and see who can get through the course the fastest.

DIY – Liven Up An Entrance

I was looking for something else totally unrelated on the internet and I found this gem. What an absolutely brilliant idea to add functionality and decor to an entranceway or even a kid’s room. There is an abundance of old screen doors (or windows for a smaller scale project) at antique stores, second hand stores or garage sales. They do not have to be in perfect shape either. Give it a light sanding and a coat of paint; lay it on thick or thin and distress your door a bit. In the project pictured here, they have used three different old doors and added a wood slat at the same level on each door and attached four coat hangers. If you are wanting to get a bit more creative, take an old table, cut it down so there are only two legs and about 19″ of table top. Give that a coat of paint as well and fasten it to the door or directly to the wall under the coat hangers. There are dozens of tutorials that can help make your project easier. Think of the possibilities! Add a shelf or baskets for mitts, cell phones, keys…the possibilities are almost endless.

Turn A Pallet Into Toy Storage

My two favorite things in one place…pallets and pool noodles. Super easy to make this one. Grab a pallet in decent condition (many retail outlets would be happy if you took one away). Give it a good brush down and cleaning, sand any rough edges and spray paint it a bright color or combination of colors with UV protected outdoor paint (available in any home renovation store). Attach your pallet to a fence with mounting hardware (or simply lean it if you aren’t handy). Add colorful hooks for hanging towels, pails, toys, plastic rings and anything else that needs to hang. Slide the pool noodles through the slots in the back of the pallet to keep the mess contained. What if there is no pool? Kids still love to run through sprinklers and get all wet. Paint a target on the pallet to hone soccer skills, cut holes in the slats for bean bag games, add pegs for ring toss games and pool noodles make great (and safe) swords.
