We Are Retiring At Charter House

After 42 years in business,we have made the difficult decision to retire due to health issues. Starting immediately, all regular priced items in the store is 35% off. This includes indoor and outdoor furniture, art, carpets, lighting, and home decor. Christmas decorations and decor is 50-70% off. We hope to have it all wrapped up by the end of March.

We want to thank all our customers over the years and those who have come into the store this past week to wish us well and say how much we will be missed. That is truly heartwarming. (I think they came by to visit Griz, our store dog).

Thank you especially to our dedicated staff who will be retiring with us, Mona and Bill. Employees like these two do not come along very often. They have come in early, stayed late, cleaned messes, loaded vehicles, unloaded trucks, shoveled snow, worked endless hours at trade shows and came in on short notice when we have needed them. Their customer service skills are first class.

I would also like to give a huge thank you to two long term former employees Scott and Paul. They were dedicated, worked hard, did all the jobs listed above, and had excellent customer service skills. We still keep in touch with both of them; that says something about our relationship.

Over the years we have had many friends and family volunteer their time at trade shows, open houses and now for our retirement sale. Many thanks to Nancy, Karen, Betty, Warren, Evan, Al, Shannon and Connie.

We will miss our truck drivers and delivery people. Hats off to anyone who has ever had to back a truck into our narrow driveway.

We will miss all our sales reps and advertising people especially Jeff Hayes who made our day a bit brighter just by popping in.

We have no Plan A, Plan B or Plan C after retirement. Like most things in our lives, we are going to ‘wing it’.

Cleaning steps
1 To soften the waxy markings, blow-dry them on medium heat, holding a hair dryer about a foot from the wall. This will take approximately one minute. Once the wax has softened, use a credit card to gently scrape as much of it from the wall as you can. If the wax doesn’t come off easily, heat it further until it becomes more pliable.

2 Wipe the remaining wax off with a soft sponge dipped in cold water. Scrub in a circular motion until the wall is clean. To prevent the soiled water from dripping down and forming streaks, hold a rag against the wall beneath the area you’re working on. Wipe dry immediately with a clean cloth.

3 If any crayon residue remains, mix equal parts baking soda and water to create a paste. Rub the mixture into the stain in a circular motion using a sponge. Wash it off with a clean, wet sponge and dry immediately.

Extra tip: Walls get a lot of wear and tear from kids. To fill little dings and dents, rub a white bar of soap into them. Works for small nail holes, too!

Stylish solution: To stay a step ahead of your little Picasso, consider repainting your walls with a washable paint in a satin finish, which is more durable than a flat one.

Day 1 Of 2017 Woman’s World Is Over

This is one of our displays at Woman’s World this year. After an embarrassing number of hours on the internet scouring for ideas, we found this. A friend had this 60 year old door, I found an old table on a roadside antique shop and some creative carpentry..we have a double sided display. Across the aisle from us is Randy’s Caricatures where he draws people in cartoon form for 20.00. Of course a decked out (WO)Man Shed is there for some lucky person to win. Attendance seemed to be a bit light but we chalked it up to a Rider game on television and The Blades playing. Looking forward to a busy day today.

End Cord Tangles And Clutter With Zip Ties

There’s nothing more frustrating than tangled up cable cords. Use a few zip-ties to keep annoying cords in check without damaging them! Follow the illustration. Loosely attach a zip tie around all the cords leaving enough room to get in between with the required amount of zip ties. Zip tie between each cord pulling snug but not tight (you don’t want to damage the cords). Cut the excess ‘tails’ off and you have successfully ended cord tangles. Repeat every few feet as necessary.
