Re-use Coffee Grounds In Genius Ways

Stop tossing your old coffee grounds. Here are a few ways to reuse them around the house.

Regardless of how you make your coffee, you will always be left with leftover, old coffee grounds. While our first instinct may be to throw these away, consider saving them instead. It turns out, coffee grounds can be very useful if used properly. Try some of these fantastic ideas out yourself!

Use It As Fertilizer: Coffee grounds are great fertilizer substitutes. They can help improve drainage and water retention in the soil. On top of that, they are known to attract earthworms which help make your plants happy.

Pest Deterrent: Coffee grounds will keep cats, slugs, and snails from your garden and yard. Throw some out around the house to repel these unwanted pests.

Carrots Love Coffee Grounds: If you mix coffee grounds with carrot seeds, you will see an increase in the quality and size of the produce.

Compost it, Don’t Trash it: If you are not ready to use coffee grounds as fertilizer, at least compost it. This will add nitrogen to a potential “future batch” of fertilizer.

Smelly Fridge? Remove the unpleasant smell from your fridge. Dry out some coffee grounds and place them into a container on one of the fridge shelves.

Freshen Your Hands Naturally: Rub coffee grounds into your hands like soap and then wash. This will help eliminate any unwanted odors from preparing foods such as onions and garlic. It will also soften your hands too.

No More Messy Fireplace: With the winter season in full force, many of us are turning on our fireplaces. However, an unpleasant side effect is the mess that the fireplace creates. Next time, sprinkle coffee grounds on the bottom of the fireplace to help keep the ashes from flying around as you scoop them.

Quirky New Use For Glass Vases And Bowls

This super cute DIY Project appeared somewhere on the internet the other night and it would be a good idea to pass along. There are hundreds of unwanted cut glass vases and bowls of all sizes in second hand stores, thrift shops and garage sales. For a couple of dollars you could have the cutest flower bed in the neighborhood. Run all your glass treasures through the dishwasher to get them nice and clean, then use a product like LOCTITE glass glue to attach the bowl to the vase forming fast and durable joints. The bond is water and heat resistant to stand up to everyday use, dries clear, sets without clamping and is dishwasher safe.

The vase can be attached base up or base down. If you attach it base up (open end down), you can set the vase on a solar light for an interesting night time garden. Alternate the solar vases and the non-solar vases, add in a couple of garden gnomes or cherubs (available at Charter House) and you have a great start to the summer season.

Oven Baked Meatball Sandwiches

This could be a go-to recipe for weeknights when the family needs to get out the door for leisure time activities

Ingredients

Sandwich rolls (cut with one side intact)
Cooked Meatballs (your favorite recipe or frozen, pre-made meatballs)
Pasta Sauce (homemade or jarred)
Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Steps

Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Place your frozen cooked meatballs or homemade cooked meatballs in a large pot. Cover with your pasta sauce. Gently fold the meatballs with the sauce, Heat the meatballs and sauce on low-medium, stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are heated thoroughly.
Fill a roll with as many meatballs as you can fit (usually 4-5 meatballs, depends on size of meatballs and the size of the roll). Top with more pasta sauce from your pot. Place filled sandwich rolls closely on baking sheet. Top each sandwich with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake until cheese is melted, hot, and bubbly.

Add Pizzazz To Artificial Flowers

With spring just around the corner, you may want to add some color into your home. A sad bunch of artificial flowers looks exactly like that…sad and artificial. You can make that bunch of flowers come to life by varying the texture around the flowers.
Grab some shiny artificial berry pods, smooth leaves, or even pine cones and set them on a rustic wood log to contrast the silky petals of your faux flowers. To make them even more realistic, there is a product called Liquid Illusion that looks like water but dries hard around the flower stems in a glass vase.

Indoor Vines Make A Comeback.

Indoor Vines
Don’t feel like you need to buy a new couch or paint a whole room to freshen up your home decor. Sometimes a new plant is all it takes. Climbing plants like the pothos (devil’s ivy) have surged in popularity. Both live and silk plants died a swift death when all thos home and restaurant make-over shows were popular. Heaven forbid, you’d have something green in your home. Now we are seeing more plants, trees and climbing vines making a comeback instead of just one leaf in some water on a dining table. But before we go screwing decorative hooks into the ceiling again, I’d wait on the revival of the macrame hanger.
