You Can Take Part In The Annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade

The annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade in New York City is the world’s largest Halloween parade.

The annual Halloween Parade that takes place in Greenwich Village, heading up Sixth Avenue. It’s hard to top this when it comes to Halloween – whether in New York City or anywhere else. This group is doing the mass zombie dance as seen in Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video. In fact, one of the dancers, who will do some solo dances during some of the routine, is dressed like Michael Jackson. Too bad Jackson is himself one of the Dearly Departed now.

1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
3 cups confectioners’ sugar
2 teaspoons lemon zest, finely grated
4 Tablespoons lemon juice, fresh
3-5 Tablespoons cream or wholemilk
(Makes about 3 cups)

Place the butter in a mixing bowl and cream the butter using an electric mixer on medium. Beat about 2 minutes. Beat in the sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice and beat on medium speed until well combined. Add the cream one tablespoon at a time. Never add all at once as the frosting may be too thin. Mix in each spoon of milk until you have the consistency you would like, then mix for 2-3 minutes. Optional, if you want the frosting to be more yellow put a drop or two of food coloring. Either spread or pipe the frosting onto your cakes or cupcake. The frosting sets when chilled.

Need A Last Minute Halloween Costume?

Okay, you have meant to get a super costume ready for weeks, and now it is a few days before Halloween. These costumes are simple.

  1. Go as Chicken Cord On Blue. Wear a blue shirt…not navy, add a telephone cord and a rubber chicken. You are good to go.
  2. Your buddies invite you an hour before a Halloween bash; grab a plain white T-shirt and a felt pen and write: ERROR 404  (next line) COSTUME NOT FOUND.
  3. This is for the guys: put a red plaid flannel shirt over a white T-shirt, roll up the sleeves and carry a package of Brawny Paper Towels. The Brawny man has a few days beard stubble but if you don’t, then just get some Halloween make-up at a Dollar store and apply. (Ladies black eye shadow will work as well.)
  4. A quick and easy zombie costume is created from old clothes you don’t wear any more or Salvation Army store clothes. Lay the clothes out on the ground and do a few burn outs under the car tires. This will rip them up and dirty them up. Apply dark make-up and heavy eyeliner.

Toothy Apple Smiles, What A Fun Snack

Toothy Apple Smiles

A grin you can eat! Cut red apples into slices, spread with the nut butter of your choice, and add mini-marshmallow “teeth.” This is a good way to get picky eater kids to enjoy a healthy snack. It’s great if you run a day care. With fall in full bloom right now, any apple will do.

Restore a Scratched Table With Two Simple Ingredients

Restore a Scratched Table

Mix about 1/2 cup vinegar with 1/2 cup of olive oil. Take a kitchen rag, dip it and rub it on. Keep going until you go over the whole table and use almost all of the mixture. I have never tried this personally but it is really supposed to work! The scratches will be fixed or much less noticeable.

Materials and tools:

  • Black cord, 5 millimeters thick: 8 lengths, each 12.8 feet (3.9 meters) long
  • Black cord for wrapped knots: 2 lengths, each 24 inches (60 centimeters) long
  • 4 natural wooden beads, 15 mm diameter
  • Terra-cotta pot, about 8 in. (20 cm) diameter
  • 1 indoor plant
  • 1 metal O-ring
  • Orange paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors

Knots used in this project:

  • Square knot
  • Wrapped knot
  • Alternating square knot
by Warp & Weft
1. Using the orange paint and paintbrush, paint an irregular curved shape around the bottom half of the pot. With the same orange paint, paint two coats on all four wooden beads. Allow everything to dry.
by Warp & Weft
2. Fold the eight 12.8-ft.-long (3.9-m-long) strands evenly in half and thread them through the O-ring to the halfway point of the cord.
by Warp & Weft
3. Using one of the 24-in. (60-cm) pieces of black cord, secure the bunch of cords with a wrapped knot.

5. Continue tying square knots for 6 in. (15 cm).

6. Repeat with all four groups.

7. Thread one of the beads through the inner two strands of each group of four cords.
by Warp & Weft
8. Leave a 15.75-in. (40-cm) length of cord between the square knot and the wooden bead, and secure with a square knot. Continue tying square knots under the bead for 6 in. (15 cm).
by Warp & Weft
9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 with the remaining three groups.

10. To begin making the basket that will hold the terra-cotta pot, divide a group of four strands in half and join them with two strands from the group closest to them. Leave 2.4 in. (6 cm) from the section of square knots and tie the four strands with a square knot. The basket will be made using alternating square knots. It’s up to you which direction you start from.

by Warp & Weft

11. Continue around until you have four square knots completed and all the strands have been used.

by Warp & Weft

12. Leave another 2.4-in. (6-cm) gap and repeat step 10 once more, again halving each group and working adjoining strands into square knots. You should now have two rows of four square knots.

by Warp & Weft

13. Leave a 2.75-in. (7-cm) gap from the bottom of the last square knot. Close the piece with a wrapped knot using the other 24-in. (60-cm) piece of cord.14. Trim the ends of the cords, leaving 6 in. (15 cm) of tassel ends.
by Warp & Weft
Pop the vessel with a plant into the net, hang your creation and enjoy. This basic pattern can be adjusted to hold larger vessels and to hang at different lengths. Once you get the hang of it, you can add more planters throughout the year. The options are endless!

How To Remove Pet Hair From Around Furniture

If you have fur babies in your home like I do, there will always be pet hair floating around. With having 2 cats and 2 dogs, pet hair removal is a constant chore and one that I absolutely detest.

But procrastinate too long and this is what you get…Pretty nasty, right? The problem is my Rainbow vacuum cleaner doesn’t have any baseboard attachments to clean in those crevices. So until I find a better vacuum, this is what I have to deal with. Asking my pets to quit shedding is about as likely as trading them all in for the hairless varieties.

How would you like to learn a secret way to remove pet hair easily, without a whole lot of effort and on the cheap? All that is required is a SQUEEGEE! Simply pull the pet hair from the carpet around baseboards and furniture with a squeegee. Pick up the mounds of hair and vacuum as usual. Voila — carpet is clean!

JOKE OF THE DAY: A woman was arrested for shop lifting.  When she went before the judge he asked her, “What did you steal?”  She replied: “a can of peaches.”  The judge asked her why she had stolen them and she replied that she was hungry.  The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can.  She replied 5.  The judge then said, “I will give you 5 days in jail.”
Before the judge could actually pronounce the punishment the woman’s husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something.  The judge said, “What is it?”
The husband said, “She also stole a bag of rice.”

What Is Your Acne Telling You?

WHAT IS YOUR ACNE TELLING YOU? Found this on Facebook. I don’t know if this is true or whether there is medical evidence to back it up but it is an interesting article.

1 & 2: Digestive System — Eat less processed or junk food, reduce the amount of fat in your diet, step up water intake and opt for cooling things like cucumbers.

3: Liver — Cut out the alcohol, greasy food and dairy. This is the zone where food allergies also show up first, so take a look at your ingredients. Besides all this, do 30 minutes of light exercise every day and get adequate sleep so your liver can rest.

4 & 5: Kidneys — Anything around the eyes (including dark circles) point to dehydration. Drink up!

6: Heart — Check your blood pressure and Vitamin B levels. Decrease the intake of spicy or pungent food, cut down on meat and get more fresh air. Besides this, look into ways to lower cholesterol, like replacing “bad fats” with “good fats” such as Omegas 3 and 6 found in nuts, avocados, fish and flax seed. Also, since this area is chock-full of dilated pores, check that your makeup is not past its expiry date or is skin-clogging.

7 & 8: Kidneys — Again, drink up! And cut down on aerated drinks, coffee and alcohol as these will cause further dehydration.

Zone 9 & 10: Respiratory system — Do you smoke? Have allergies? This is your problem area for both. If neither of these is the issue, don’t let your body overheat, eat more cooling foods, cut down on sugar and get more fresh air. Also keep the body more alkaline by avoiding foods that make the body acidic (meat, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, sugar) and adding more alkalizing foods like green veggies and wheatgrass juice. Another thing that most of us forget – dirty cell phones and pillow cases are two of the top acne culprits and this area is what they affect the most!

Zone 11 & 12: Hormones — This is the signature zone for stress and hormonal changes. And while both are sometimes unavoidable, you can decrease their effect by getting adequate sleep, drinking enough water, eating leafy veggies and keeping skin scrupulously clean. Another interesting point: breakouts in this area indicate when you are ovulating (and on which side).

Zone 13: Stomach — Step up the fibre intake, reduce the toxin overload and drink herbal teas to help with digestion.

14: Illness — Zits here can be a sign that your body is fighting bacteria to avoid illness. Give it a break, take a yoga class, take a nap, take time to breathe deeply, drink plenty of water and know that everything always works out!
