DIY A Pool Noodle Shower For The Kids

Pool Noodle Shower
Put a fun twist on playing in the sprinkler with this easy-to-make noodle shower. Cut a couple of feet off a full-size noodle. Then, using a pencil or dowel, poke holes in the noodle’s sides. Tape off one side of the noodle. Hang the garden hose over a tree limb, then slide the open side of the noodle over the hose nozzle for hours of fun water play.

Create Your Own Flavored Lip Balm

Another lazy day Sunday. Vaseline is a great lip balm but the taste isn’t appealing so try this quick fix. Add Kool-Aid to Vaseline to make your own flavored lip balm. You will have to play with the quantities of each to get it just right for your taste.

Pool Noodle Obstacle Course For Kids

Construct a backyard obstacle course for your kids this summer with pool noodles (great idea for a birthday party). They can pretend it’s the summer Olympics. Create hoops by staking dowels into the ground, and sliding the noodle over them in various ways to create all types of fun obstacles. Hoops can act as soccer nets as well. Make Olympics rings by bending the noodles into circles and securing the ends with duct tape. Kids can hop through these circles or pick them up one at a time and slide them down over their bodies and see who can get through the course the fastest.

DIY – Liven Up An Entrance

I was looking for something else totally unrelated on the internet and I found this gem. What an absolutely brilliant idea to add functionality and decor to an entranceway or even a kid’s room. There is an abundance of old screen doors (or windows for a smaller scale project) at antique stores, second hand stores or garage sales. They do not have to be in perfect shape either. Give it a light sanding and a coat of paint; lay it on thick or thin and distress your door a bit. In the project pictured here, they have used three different old doors and added a wood slat at the same level on each door and attached four coat hangers. If you are wanting to get a bit more creative, take an old table, cut it down so there are only two legs and about 19″ of table top. Give that a coat of paint as well and fasten it to the door or directly to the wall under the coat hangers. There are dozens of tutorials that can help make your project easier. Think of the possibilities! Add a shelf or baskets for mitts, cell phones, keys…the possibilities are almost endless.

Turn A Pallet Into Toy Storage

My two favorite things in one place…pallets and pool noodles. Super easy to make this one. Grab a pallet in decent condition (many retail outlets would be happy if you took one away). Give it a good brush down and cleaning, sand any rough edges and spray paint it a bright color or combination of colors with UV protected outdoor paint (available in any home renovation store). Attach your pallet to a fence with mounting hardware (or simply lean it if you aren’t handy). Add colorful hooks for hanging towels, pails, toys, plastic rings and anything else that needs to hang. Slide the pool noodles through the slots in the back of the pallet to keep the mess contained. What if there is no pool? Kids still love to run through sprinklers and get all wet. Paint a target on the pallet to hone soccer skills, cut holes in the slats for bean bag games, add pegs for ring toss games and pool noodles make great (and safe) swords.

Funky Fence Idea

Make this DIY fence decor using supplies from the dollar store! Pick out various cups, bowls, plates and platters. Attach them together to create pretty flowers then hang them on the fence. It is recommended using Goop marine glue because it is heavy duty and UV resistant. Use a green hose to make the stems. GREAT idea and easy to do! **EDITOR’S NOTE** I saw the flower heads done with various hub caps spray painted bright colors…that worked really well. Source Unknown

Go Boho Chic For An Out-Of-The-Ordinary Change

What is boho design? It definitely isn’t for everyone, that’s what it is. Some might wonder what Bohemian style is. The word “Bohemian” comes from the French word for “gypsy,” and it applies to those who live unconventional (usually artistic) lives.

Boho style decorating is a complete assault on the senses. It borders Moroccan, the hippie era and cultural treasures all balled up into one space. Boho is easy enough to create; think macrame, tied ribbons, tassels, and all things textured, raggy, shaggy, and frayed. More is More. Pack a space with as much personality as possible, Bohemian style encourages a sense of stuffed-to-the-brim. An interior that embraces Boho-Chic should appear busy, almost chaotic, and yet confident. Cover the walls with beloved items, fill surfaces with textiles and color, and layer, then layer, then layer again. Think art, books, furniture, fabrics, pillows, sculptures, plants, lamps, or whatever else makes your heart sing.

TIP: To tie all this chaos together, choose a common color, for example, this photo has purple as a common color. Choose blue or bright pink if purple isn’t your thing. Not every pillow, rug or window covering needs to have purple in it but each ‘area’ should have something purple…somewhere for the eyes to ‘land’ and focus on. This room has a great mix of fabrics, texture, lighting, color and mis-matched furniture without going overboard. There are no rules.

Store Fishing Rods With PVC And A Pool Noodle

With the start of camping and fishing season starting, here is a clever way to store fishing rods. You will need PVC pipe, a drill, screws and a pool noodle. First, measure and mark where the screws need to be to attach the PVC pipe to the wall and drill a hole large enough to fit a screw through to the back wall of the pipe. Do this every 24″ or however far apart the wall studs are. Measure the distance required between each fishing pole, mark and drill holes on the top, large enough to fit the poles into. Attach the pipe to your wall. Make slits in the pool noodle without cutting all the way through every stud width. Attach the pool noodle to the wall with screws and washers (don’t make them too tight). Judge the distance between the PVC pipe and the pool noodle according to your fishing rods. Then mark and cut the rest of the slits in the pool noodle and load up your gear. These instructions are over simplified but there are tutorials on GOOGLE which will help more.

Stacked Planter Box – Re-Cycled Pallet

Create a stacked planter box from old pallets. There was no instructions or tutorial on this project. I found it somewhere on-line but it cannot be that hard to do. Pull some old pallets apart and reconstruct them for a beautiful raised flower bed or herb garden or a mixture of both.
Don’t you love how the planters, made out of old pallet wood, are stacked and askew – playing into the whimsy and beauty of a garden.

Use Tension Rods To Create A Fort

All kids love making a fort. A super easy way to make it happen is tension rods. Very few homes have a convenient little cubby like in the photo, however, the doorway into a kid’s room will work well enough for one tension rod and balance another tension rod across chair backs. Also, use bedroom door frames across the hall from each other to put up tension rods and string fabric to make a fort. Yards of inexpensive fabric can be found in the bargain section of fabric stores, so the kid’s can have their own fort decor. Have a circus theme, a pink glam theme or camo theme…get creative. Create a rod pocket to slip the tension rod through, leaving enough fabric to trail to the floor. Fill the fort with pillows and tots and let the kids have fun. Easy to disassemble.
